Positive tip of the day4/7/2023 I find that keeping a gratitude journal is so helpful in gaining some perspective especially when you’re feeling a bit negative. I’m sure this isn’t a surprising tip, but I had to include it because it is such a powerful practice! Unlike positive aspects which focuses on your actions, gratitude is more general and is about appreciating all the positive things in your life. Just saying it to myself when I wake up, or when I’m having a bit of a wobble can help. I was being a bit of a control freak so my affirmation is really helpful to remind me that even when I can’t be in control I can still be happy and safe. Think about where the negativity is and see if you can ‘flip’ it into a positive statement. At the moment I have an affirmation that is ‘I am happy and safe even when I can’t control the situation or outcome’. I always prefer to write my own ones based on what I’m struggling with kind of reversed. I’m sometimes a bit reluctant to mention affirmations as I think you generally either love them or hate them – but as cheesy as they can be, reciting an affirmation can be really helpful for creating a more positive mindset. All you need to do is write a list of all the positive, helpful things you’ve done each day (this practice is about what you do, rather than life in general which is gratitude as we’ll look at soon). We can eat really well all day long and have a cookie after dinner and you can bet it’s not the day of healthy eating we focus on it’s that one bloody cookie! Practising positive aspects is a simple way to train your brain to see more of the positive things you do. Our brains can very easily get fixated on the negative things we do. Here’s 5 tips to help you move from a negative mindset to a positive mindset: Practice Positive Aspects Your mindset is the lens through which you see the world, so moving from a negative mindset to a positive mindset can be really effective in changing how you feel on a day to day basis. Put it off until you’ve showered, had breakfast, and feel refreshed and ready to face the day.I love talking about mindset because it can make such a huge difference to everyone’s life. If whatever is on your phone can wait all the time you are sleeping, it can wait a little longer. It’s better to keep a clear head for a little while. You don’t need all that first thing in the morning. Those sleek little electronics are full of information overload. You could stumble upon an angry email from your boss, a message from your ex, or bad news that the internet is full of (war, natural disasters, hate crimes…). It’s not good to look at your notifications too early because: I especially avoid it before I’ve had breakfast - it’s easier to face the day after eating. Now I try to wait until I’m done with the rest of my morning routine. I used to check my phone as soon as I opened my eyes. It’s so tempting to check what the digital world’s been up to while we were asleep. Don’t Check Your Notifications Right Away
